National employees in banks on the rise
NATIONAL CAREER EXHIBITION INAUGURATED IN SHARJAH
By a staff reporter SHARJAH - The number of Emirati nationals working in banks has increased from 1,278 in 1997 to 8,712 by the end of last year, Ahmed Humaid Ai Tayer, Chairman of the Human Resources Development Committee in the banking and financial sector. said yesterday.     He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the ninth National Career Exhibition at the Expo Centre Sharjah. which was inaugurated by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed AI Qasimi. AI Tayer further said. "Ten years have passed since the Human Resources Development Committee started its work in the banking and financial sector. All along. the objective has been to implement a strategic vision of supporting the Emiratisation policy in the banking sector." The government has made it mandatory for all banks operating in the country to increase their national workforce by four per cent annually.     The opening ceremony was followed by a programme during which Shaikh Sultan conferred awards on banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions in the country for excelling in national	human resource development.     In the first half of last year, 29 per cent of the total workforce in the banking sector were UAE nationals.     The inaugration ceremony for the four-day exhibition was also attended by Sail AI Midfa, Director General of the Expo Centre Sharjah, directors of various government departments and members of the diplomatic corps and trade associations.
